Star Blazers Episode Guide for First Season:
Episodes 3 and 4

1-03. Ultra-Menace Missile
(Yamato Take Off!! The Challenge of 296,000 Light-Years!!)

Mark and Derek are recruited by Captain Avatar as members of the "Star Force", a group that will fight Gamilons and get the CosmoDNA from the planet Iscandar which will remove the radiation from Earth. The Yamato is renamed the "Argo". While the Argo is still being fitted for space, it is attacked by a Gamilon Ultra Menace missile. The Star Force jump-starts the Wave Motion Engine and takes off just before being wiped out by the missile (despite the fact that they have managed to get into the air already in the previous episode).

1-04. Warp to Mars
(World of Wonder! Yamato Leaped Past Light)

After a brief battle in space, and before an impending warp, pilot "Conroy" finds himself adrift. Derek goes after him and manages to wave him into the hanger. With a Gamilon aircraft carrier approaching quickly, the Star Force manages to escape as it tests the super-light-speed capabilities of the Iscandarian Wave Motion engine for the first time. The warp, a small one, takes them from Earth to Mars in a minute. They land on the red planet in a snowstorm and make repairs.

"He says the Star Force made a space warp. TELL me it's a mistake, Krypt."

"Sir, I don't think Ganz would make up a story like THAT."

"No, he doesn't have that much imagination -- NONE of my generals do..."

Note: Despite what the American script says, it was not actually Conroy who was nearly left behind at the warp, but rather Hardy (Yamamoto). Note the shock of long brown hair that covers one half of his face, even while flying!) Hady does not make any further appearances until the Second Season, and so it is perhaps for this reason that the script re-writers felt that they could get away with calling him "Conroy". But, WHY they did so is still a mystery.
