Star Blazers Episode Guide for First Season:
Episodes 11 and 12

1-11. Desslok Mines? (Resolution! Break Through the Gamilons' Absolute Defense Line!!)

"Now, let us all drink a toast... a toast to the Star Force's last night in space."

Desslok's aide, General Talan, uses the electromagnetic "Desslok Space Mines" in an attempt to stop the Star Force. But, donning jet-packs, the Star Force removes the mines from its path by hand, earning the admiration of Desslok.

Note: Gamilons finally turn blue as Desslok strides down the aisle. Also, there seems to be a slight blooper in this episode. When he realises that the Star Force is keen to his trap, Desslok says, "Avatar guessed there's control for the space mines and he's looking for it." However, at the end of the episode, Desslok asks, "Krypt, who is the captain of the Star Force?... 'Avatar'? Send him a message saying 'Congratulations', and sign my name." The intonations of the words suggest Desslok has never heard of the captain's name -- which contradicts his earlier lines. Of course, it may have been only an error in intonation. Had Desslok's voice actor delivered the line as, "Krypt, who is the captain of the Star Force?... 'Avatar'..." we would have been given the impression that Krypt was being asked to merely remind Desslok.

1-12. The Sea of Fire (Absolute Death! The Wishing-Star of Orion, Hell-Star)

"We'll stop them in the Sea of Fire on Red Star.
If the Ecto Gas doesn't get them, the Sea of Fire certainly will...
I think it's a perfect plan... don't you?" -- Desslok

General Krypt uses a force field net ("Space Net") to trap the Star Force, and unleashes Desslok's new dark matter ecto gas on them. The Star Force flies through the corona of a red star to escape the gas. Krypt fearfully explains this failure to Leader Desslok whom he has disturbed from a royal nap: "...Shall I send out our interceptors?"

"'Interceptors'? GEN-eral Krypt?!... (muffled) Send congratulations..."

Note: There's a near-blooper in this episode too. We are shown a picture of two tall blond Gamilons staring out at the video screen. Both appear to be Desslok (from behind).

Also, the Space Net was a neat idea. It had a weak spot only at the point at which Red Star was located. But, in general, it is a brilliant idea, and we are surprised that it was never used, say, in the battles against the Bolars. The same could be said of the Ecto Gas, though it does tend to make a mess in the throne room!
