The Star Force approaches Iscandar, and learns that
Iscandar and Gamilon are twin planets. The Argo is pulled
to Gamilon, where Desslok
waits to take his revenge. Desslok and Queen Starsha have
a lengthy phone conversation about imperialistic morals. But,
Desslok says of the doomed Earthers, "What difference does it
make? They're so uncivilised!" He proceeds to try to destroy the
Argo by drowning it in Gamilon's sea of sulfuric acid. The Argo's
third bridge melts and drops off into the sea.
"We've got the Star Force, right here on Gamilon,
and you bumbling idiots STILL can't destroy it.
Activate the sulfuric acid storm machines!
If we can't shoot it down, we'll MELT IT DOWN!" -- Desslok
"It's a ghost ship, that's it! Now we must kill the ghost!
Fire all our missiles! Empty the arsenals!
Shoot down the memory of the Star Force!
Erase it from the skies forever!"
Forced to submerge into the acid sea to evade the relentless bombings, the Star Force does the only thing it can by firing the Wave Motion Gun at Gamilon's under-sea volcanos -- setting off planetary disaster. Planet quakes shake down huge segments of Gamilon's upper crust layer. Volcanos cover many cities with lava. And Gamilons own roof-mounted missiles fall on those that the lava missed.
"Leader Desslok! We must stop fooling ourselves... You said it yourself: It's almost as if we've been fighting a ghost ship. How can... an old Earth battleship... defeat all of Gamilon?!
WE'VE BEEN FIGHTING A FORCE WE DON'T UNDERSTAND! LET US STOP FIGHTING THEM BEFORE THEY DESTROY US!!" -- Krypt
General Krypt wigs out, begging Desslok to stop fighting the Star Force (this earns him a shot in the back in the original Japanese production). The Gamilon command center is destroyed, and the Star Force barely survives the battering.
When the fighting is over, the Argo floats serenely above the devastated Gamilon cities (where Gamilon's space fleets are we will never know). Wildstar goes out on the main deck in search of Nova. He finds her, weeping and lamenting "I'm just terribly tired, I guess. [she sniffles] Here we are so close to Iscandar and still fighting!" Wildstar consoles her, "I think this was our last battle, Nova. The Gamilons have finally stopped fighting." In the Japanese dialogue, he is a bit more direct about what they have done. Unleashing the Wave Gun has done more than destroy the Gamilon Command Center. It has effectively destroyed the entire planetary civilization. One might compare this lament to the debates that have risen after America dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and we wonder if the original Japanese script-writers had this in mind.
With no further obstacles in its way, the Star Force ascends from Gamilon, and is welcomed to a planet-rise scene of Iscandar.
