"Yes, the people of Earth are strong. But they will make very good slaves." -- Prince Zordar

For one year now, Earth has been unthreatened. The Gamilons no longer dominate the galaxy. But, unknown to Earth, a new danger lurks in the dark depths of space. A seemingly natural, great white comet streaks through the stars, a comet that threatens the galaxies, as it conquers or devours every planet it encounters. But it is not a natural comet. It is the Comet Empire -- a huge, powerful space fortress made to resemble a comet.
Now the Comet Empire reaches out for Earth,
a planet once again green and beautiful after
recovering from Gamilon's
radioactive planet bombs.
After the immense success of the movie Arrivederci Yamato, this second TV season, called "Yamato 2" in Japan, was designed along the same basic plot. When Voyager released the Star Blazers adaptation of this series on video, they gave it the English title, "The Comet Empire".
In any event, the Second Season of Star Blazers is said to represent the best of Star Blazers/Yamato, with character maturity, rich plot complexity, improved animation, well-planned strategies, and tasteful romance.
Episode titles listed in parentheses are the actual Japanese titles. There are no official English titles, so the ones given are simply designed to be descriptive.
