"I have two words for you, Wildstar of Earth: Drop Dead!"
When Westchester adapted Yamato III and made the Third Season of Star Blazers (Bolar Wars), they annoyingly re-used the opening sequence of their Second Season (Comet Empire).
Here are the first few scenes of the original Japanese opening credits for the last episode of "Yamato III" (Japanese title of TV Season 3).
How we wish that they had used this footage... alas.
The disc of the Milky Way galaxy... it is composed of billions of migrating stars. In it, new stars are born as old stars fade out. The planet Earth is no exception. It is now being threatened not by this stellar cycle of life and death, but by a huge galactic war. The Galman Empire and the Bolar Federation fight to see who will dominate space... and all in it...The year is 22051. On this day, a Galman planet-destroyer proton missile meant for planet Berth goes astray and plunges into our Sun, sending it into a decay that will end in supernova...
YTV3: Third Season - original air dates October 11/1980-April 4/1981
1 The creators of Yamato III had set its date as 2205 when the TV run aired. For some strange reason, when Final Yamato was released, they declared that both the TV season and the movie were to have taken place in 2203.
Rank this oddity among those such as the Gamilons changing their skin colour mid-season in The Quest for Iscandar.Following this story is that of Final Yamato.
The foregoing season synopsis was composed from information in Roman Albums #53, #54, and #56 (see YAMATO BOOKS section of this document). English name translation matches that found in the American release of Yamato III/Star Blazers Season 3 (now available from Voyager Entertainment Inc.). Many kind thanks to Walter Amos for providing the air date information.
