Eternal Edition Collection

In 2000, Nippon Columbia introduced a new line of Yamato soundtracks on CD called "Eternal Editions". There are eleven discs in this collection. Each disc is called a "File". Some of the discs are packaged together as 2-CD sets. Each set is packaged in an attractive black box adorned with silver line art. The discs themselves have pictures printed on them, and are contained in transparent "picture disc" jewel cases.

Files No. 0 and 1
COCX-31082->3 This 2-CD set contains the two discs entitled Symphonic Suite Great Yamato and Space Battleship Yamato.
The first disc is a collection of preliminary music intended for the new film, Great Yamato. Several of the themes are new, while others are essentially material borrowed from the classic (and out-of-print) album Symphonic Suite Space Battleship Yamato.

The second disc is an excellent soundtrack for the original TV series (first season). This monophonic disc contains the classic themes as heard in the show. Many of these selections have never been published before. There are 17 physical tracks, each of which contains three to five separate compositions. I found this disc a welcome addition to my collection, even in addition to the BGM for the first season.

Files No. 2 and 3
COCX-31154->5 Both discs in this 2-CD set are entitled "Arrivederci Space Battleship Yamato" and contain music from the film, Arrivederci Yamato: Warriors of Love. Some of these arrangements also show up in the second TV series. Some are not found on previous CD releases. Unfortunately, the famous "Disco Yamato" and "Disco Comet Empire" themes are not found on either disc (because Nippon Columbia does not hold the rights to these compositions).
About one half of the second disc contains a live symphonic performance of music from the first TV series.

COCX-31156 File No. 4 ("Space Battleship Yamato Part 2") contains music exclusively from the second TV series. Several tracks are previously unpublished on CD. Between this and Files 2 and 3, and the original Yamato Part 2 BGM, fans now have a nearly complete collection of background music for the second TV series.

COCX-31157->8 File No. 5 ("Space Battleship Yamato: New Journey") contains music from the TV film, Yamato: New Journey.

COCX-31159 File No. 7 ("Space Battleship Yamato III") contains music from the third TV series.

Files No. 8 and 9
COCX-31160->1 Files No. 8 and 9 are a 2-CD set (both discs entitled "Space Battleship Yamato: The Final Chapter") contain music from the film, Final Yamato.

COCX-31162 File No. 10 ("Space Battleship Yamato: Vocal Collection") contains vocal songs (Japanese) featured in the various films and TV series.
