If, by this point, you've enjoyed most of the other BGM soundtrack albums, and are in want of something that has sound effects, then this album is for you.
Most of us grew up listening to the Star Blazers episodes with the music we now have come to love played right along with the dialogue and sound effects. Now, we finally get to have this put into stereo on a real sound effect soundtrack.
Sound Fantasia Yamato -- the title of which actually has an "E" printed inside the "o" of "Sound", probably referring to "Sound Effects" -- was made by taking stereo music tracks (the same ones found on the symphonic theme music albums and the BGM albums) and overlaying actual film sound effect tracks onto them. Although there is no dialogue, either English or Japanese, the result is a very FUN listening experience.
This album is a double CD set, and in my opinion well worth its price. The first CD contains nine tracks of music mixed with sound effects, taking the listener on a trip spanning the first and second TV seasons (Quest for Iscandar, The Comet Empire); followed by 23 shorter tracks of only sound effects (in mono). These are 23 are labeled as "bonus" tracks. The second CD continues in the stereophonic journey where the first CD left off, with music mixed with sound effects from Be Forever Yamato (though skipping New Journey), then TV Season 3 (The Bolar Wars), and finally Final Yamato. There are no bonus sound effect tracks on the second CD.
