American Cast for "All" Star Blazers

From left to right: The Commander, Yamazaki,
Dash, Kitano, Orion Jr., Sandor, Mark Venture, Derek Wildstar,
Nova, IQ-9, Eager, Dr Sane, Homer, Conroy
This is what I have so far of a cast list for the voice
actors for the Star Blazers TV seasons in English.
Most fans seem particularly interested in knowing who the
voice actors for the first two seasons were. We call them
the "Sunwagon Cast", as they did their work for the production
company, Sunwagon. Because Star Blazers Seasons 1 and 2 were
produced as a non-union voice-over job,
and because every bit of time used for credits costs,
the voice actors did their work under the agreement that no
voice credits would be given. As a result, the American
show credits
do not include voice actors, and little information
on the American voice actors is known.
Season 3 was done as a union job, apparently, although they too
did not receive credit. Many of those voice actors were those
who had worked on Speed Racer. Here is what info we do have:
CAST
The above list is brief. No information is available for characters
not mentioned here, except that since many of the voice actors for the
Third Season were the same as those for Speed Racer, it should
not be too difficult to find them.

If you were a Star Blazers voice actor and you are reading
this (it could happen, just ask Ms. Howard), and would like to have
credit finally given, please contact us. Or, if you have any information
on the voice actors, please let us know (we do not post information
without permission of the actor). Or, if you know someone who did
voice work for Star Blazers, please let that actor know that we fans
would very much like to know who he/she is, and that he/she should
feel free to contact us at:

Vocal Notes
- Chris Latta also had a number of published roles such as the
Transformers' Starscream. Visit the
Chris
Latta Shrine to learn more about him.
- Eddie Allen has also a number of film roles.
There are a few different actors listed in the databases
by that name, and the following roles were noted. It would be interesting
to see these productions to listen to the actor's voice:
First Eddie Allen:
- Mother's Day (1989) (TV film)
- "Seinfeld" (1990) playing "Doctor" in episode: "Fatigues, The"
(episode # 8.6) 10/31/1996
- "Babylon 5" (1994) playing "Man" in episode: "Race Through Dark
Places, A" (episode # 2.8) 1/25/1995
Second Eddie Allen:
- Emma Mae (aka "Black Sister's Revenge") (film, 1976) as James
- "NYPD Blue" (series, 1993) as "Doctor" in (episode # 4.13 "Tom and Geri")
1/28/1997
Visit one of the Eddie Allen résumé
pages to learn more about him. He also probably did the voice
for Dash. Think about it. Add a little reverberation, and make
Dash's voice a little more queenie, and you have Desslok.
- One thing that both Amy Howard and Tom Tweedy have told us
is that there was some amount of voice doubling in the first and
second seasons. Tweedy says that, for instance, he voiced for the
occassional enemy soldier. Then, there is the Desslok/Dash connexion.
And, the voice actor for Gamilon General Lysis sounds a good bit like the
one used for Gamilon General Garrat.
I was thinking it would be interesting to
comprise a list of voice doubles. E-mail me with any observations
you'd like to see listed here.
- Sandor's voice actor also played the Gamilon fighter pilot in
episode 1-05 ("The Floating Continent of Jupiter"), and probably also
the Gamilon tank operator in the next episode, 1-06 ("Paladin").
However, I have often thought that he may have also done IQ-9's
voice. Imagine Sandor speaking with his nose pinched shut.
- As noted above, Lydia Leeds did the voices for both Starsha
and Trelaina. Perhaps the need to make them sound different explains
why Trelaina's voice sounded so artificially shrill.
- Ken Meseroll, Derek Wildstar's voice actor, has made some appearences
elsewhere on TV. He starred along side Patrick Stewart as an Ensign
McDowell in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode,
"The Next Phase".
- Amy Howard once said that she thought she heard Eddie Allen's
voice (Desslok) on a cat food commercial.
- Chris Latta (Sgt Knox), played "Wheeljack" in the show,
The Transformers. He may also have beenthe voice for Captain Gideon in the
second season. He is now deceased.
- Could the voice actor for Homer have been the one who played
General Stone? There are some similarities.
And, the following were noted by another fan who wrote it
(Thanks Brian!):
- Could Chris Latta also have done Comet Empire General Gorce? (Editor's
note: should this have been Bleak?)
- Princess Invidia's actor also did the Bee People queen, Meleena.
- Captain Avatar's actor also did a Comet Empire surgeon seen hovering over
Desslok's waist line as he resuscitates him. There are those who also
believe that Avatar and Orion were done by the same actor. They point
to this clue: In episode 1-10, when the crew calls home and
Orion helps Nova call her parents -- He clears his throat, and when he
starts talking, it sounds like Avatar, but segues back into the normal
Orion.
- In an early scene, Comet Empire General Torpitz (who later is called
Bleak) sounds as if he was done by Dr Sane's actor: "Good work, General
Naska. The Argo's energy system is burning itself up for your overload!"
Similarly, it's also fairly obvious that General Gorce was done by
Dr Sane's actor: "If you refuse the protection of the Comet Empire,
we will be forced to attack your planet...".
- Chris Latta also did Comet Empire General Dire, and
a Yamato crewman in eps 2-24 and 2-25,
saying "torpedo number 3, armed and ready to fire." Likewise, the
same actor who did the Commander also spoke one of these "torpedo ready
to fire lines", and also played Nova's father in ep 1-19.
- It has been suggested that young Jordy Venture has the same voice
as young Derek Wildstar.
