The Comet Empire consists of a mobile fortress which is protected by a swirling vortex of white plasma, and the planets and regions of space that its military forces have subjugated. When moving, the fortress resembles a large Comet, and is virtually impregable. The plasma shield acts as both a protection device and a means of absorbing space matter for fuel. The fortress itself is a huge city built on an artificial mountain set atop a hemispherical lower shell which resembles the surface of Earth's moon. The city's diameter is 15 kilometres, and overall height of the fortess is 10 kilometres. But, with its plasma shield at full travelling strength, the diameter is about half that of Earth. At the rim of the city is a revolving belt of hundreds of plasma cannons, capable of wiping out enemy fleets at point-blank range.
The Comet Empire has travelled to the Milky Way Galaxy from the Andromeda Galaxy. It is not known if Andromeda was its origin, or simply its most recent stop on its itenerary. In 2201, the Comet Empire is headed for Earth.
Prince Zordar is the megalomaniacle Emperor of the Comet Empire.
His one goal is conquest. He has Desslok rescued from sub-space
and befriends the Gamilon with whom he soon becomes impressed.
Though Zordar usually seems boastful and confident, he takes the
threat of Trelaina seriously when his minions do not.
Appears in: YTV2, AY
Princess Invidia (Lady Sahvela)

The name, Invidia, is a Latin word meaning jealousy. As her name implies, Invidia is a character who is jealous to the core. Though she is cast as the daughter of Prince Zordar in Star Blazers, in Yamato 2, she has no relation to him. In either case, she is the Governing Office Commander of the Empire. Her feelings of animosity and jealousy towards Desslok eventually cause her to deceive her father, turning him against the Gamilon. Her internal power struggle withing the Comet Empire makes for one of the more interesting sub-plots of TV Season 2.
Appears in YTV2 (black hair), AY (white hair)
General Dire (Commander Gehnitsu)
Second in the palace conspiracy is General Dire, the Commander of the Empire's Attack Fleet. He is an old friend of Prince Zordar, and probably wishes to succeed him. But Invidia has convinced Dire that Zordar may choose Desslok to succeed him. So, Dire and Invidia scheme to recall Desslok from his campaign against the Star Force before he can win more favour from Zordar.
After realising that that Empire has suffered too many defeats as a result of Dire's and Invidia's scheming, Prince Zordar has both of them left behind on the exploding fortress when he escapes in his dreadnaught (this event was contradicted in Star Blazers). The name, Dire, is derived from the Latin word, dirus, meaning ill-omened.
Appears in YTV2, AY (though looks different)
General Gorse (Razela)
Gorse is the War Committee Council Leader General. His task is to report to Zordar on matters of military bureacracy, and to act as a liason to conquered nations. Thus, is it he who is selected to deliver Zordar's ultimatum to Earth. The War Council consists of General Dire, General Bleak, and two other unnamed generals. The name Gorse is derived from Middle English, meaning "to stab".
Appears in YTV2, AY
General Torbuck (Commmander Goland)
Torbuck is the commander of the elite anti-matter missile
attack fleet, and reported directly to General Dire. Yet,
despite his power to destroy planets, he prefers to spend his
time hunting wild game such as dinosaurs. Torbuck is arrogant,
and when redispatched under Desslok's command, he quarrels
with Desslok's decisions, and insists on defeating the Star Force
himself -- a choice that gets him vapourised by the Wave Motion Gun.
Appears in YTV2, AY
General Bleak (Fleet Commander Balzeh)
The second member of the War Committee Council, Bleak commands the Combined Fleet which is the general occupation force. His long-range Magna Flame Gun succeeds in crippling the Earth Defense fleet before it can fight back.
Note: In the first few episodes of the second season (English version, Star Blazers) Bleak is referred to as General Turpis (turpis is Latin for depravity). The disparity in English names is probably a result of early production indecisions on the part of Sunwagon's admittedly clever scripting staff.
Appears in YTV2, AY (though looks different)
General Manic (Commander Zoru (Deskuhl))
Manic is the commander of the Detatched Mechanised Unit, which is borne by his Carrier Fleet. The Empire makes the mistake of distancing his fleet too far from Bleak's main force, and the EDF Carrier Fleet led by the Star Force ambushes Manic. The name, Manic, is derived from the Greek word for madness.
Appears in YTV2
General Naska (Commander Naska)
Naska commands the Combined Fleet's Advance Force, and is in charge of attacking Earth's outposts such as the one on planet Brumas, the 11th planet of the Sol system. As he is at last begging Desslok for help, he falls victim to the Argo's new long-range cannons (10 megametre range).
Appears in YTV2
General Scorch (Tank Commander Zabaibal)
Scorch commands the Occupation Battle Corps' Storm Trooper Infantry Group. In particular, he manages the fleet of tanks. Contrary to what is said in Stra Blazers, these tanks are not manned by robots. Scorch is killed in hand-to-hand combat by Sgt. Knox.
Appears in YTV2, AY
Morta (Miru)
To keep an eye on Desslok as he uses the Comet Empire's resources to fight his own war with the Star Force, Invidia dispatches her aide, Morta as Desslok's assistant and liason to the Empire. Desslok is soon aware of Morta's spying. The name, Morta, is derived from the Latin word for death.
Appears in YTV2, AY
Mazor (Mehzah)
Mazor is a Comet Empire pilot captured by the Star Force. After he is interrogated unsuccessfully, he escapes the Argo, only to be refused landing rights by his own fleet. He crashes his plane into the Argo in a futile attempt to confirm his loyalty.

She is the mysterious woman of Iscandar who makes the offer to give the Cosmo DNA machine to Earth... promising it will remove the radioactive pollution from the planet. Starsha seems to have almost magical powers of communication, sending occasional helping hints to the Star Force when lost deep in space. She falls in love with Alex Wildstar, and they produce a daughter. After Starsha's death, she appears to her daughter Sasha as a ghostly apparition.
Starsha's look-alike sister, whom Starsha sent to Earth to deliver the message about her offer of the Cosmo DNA. Astra crashed and died on Mars delivering the message after unfortunately flying through the crossfire of the Battle of Pluto. Why Starsha could not simply have transmitted the message using her remarkable powers of communication to begin with is unknown. The English translators of the first two TV seasons chose to call her Astra instead of Sasha. Had they been the ones to translate the later movies as well, Starsha's daughter (see below) would likely have been named Astra as well (the later movies were translated using original Japanese names).
Fast-growing daughter of Starsha and Alex Wildstar, named after Starsha's dead sister, Sasha (Astra). She returns to Earth in late 2201 as an infant after Desslok's battle with the Black Nebula Empire (in which Iscandar was destroyed). By mid 2202, she has grown into a teenage girl, complete with language skills. Sasha, named after Starsha's dead sister, joins the Star Force in its mission to seek out the Black Nebula Empire mother planet, Dezarium. Once on the planet, she remains to sabotage it. After doing so, she is killed by Supreme Leader, Scaldart.

Planet Telezart is a hollow planet, though not as elegantly carved as Gamilon. The interior once held a great civilisation. But, it began to decay once factional groups, refusing to live together under a rule of tolerance, began fighting wars of urban terrorism.
Telezart is located about half-way between Earth and the approaching Comet Empire.
Trelaina, somehow bestowed with enormous psychokinetic powers,
is the only survivor on planet Telezart. Terrorism and civil war on
that planet threw her into an emotionally unstable state. She lost
control of her power and created massive energy shockwaves that
killed everyone else. According to Comet Empire intellegence
information, Trelaina has "found the secret of anti-matter".
Whether this was meant to be the source of her power is uncertain.
In the movie, Arrivederci Yamato, in which we see an alternate
variant of Trelaina, we are told that her entire (naked) being is
composed of anti-matter. This is certainly not the case in the TV series.
Trelaina knows about the Comet Empire, and has attempted to send radio messages to Earth to warn them. Because of what she did to her own planet, however, she refuses to use her power to take anyone's life again, even to stop the Comet Empire.
Trelaina falls in love with Mark Venture, the love for whom eventually persuades her to fight the Empire. In doing so, she disappears from the universe.

All Bolars appear only in the 3rd TV season (YTV3).
The Bolar Federation is based somewhat on the old Soviet Union.
Particularly, the names of several characters are Slavic in sound.
Most of the Bolars have light blue-grey skin, though those on
Planet Berth have green skin.
Prime Minister Bemlayz (Prime Minister Bemlahze)
Another power-hungry tyrant, Bemlayz enjoys verbally sparring with
the leader of his chief military competition, Leader Desslok of Galman.
Bemlayz is particularly opposed to worshippers of Queen Guardiana,
since they pose a threat to his authority.
Brozof (Borozof)
Brozof is the General Governor of planet Berth, the planet that
has been under attack from Galman General Dagon's fleet. Welcoming
the Star Force to a dinner reception, Brozof suggests an alliance
of mutual protection and friendship... hoping to establish a Bolar
presence in Earth space.
Captain Ram
Captain Ram is the commander of the flagship of the Berth Fleet, Legendra, and a member of a green-skinned race incorporated into the Bolar Federation. His fleet is the only thing between General Dagon's forces and Berth. The Star Force befriends him and his crew, and escorts his damaged ship out of the war zone -- thus making themselves an enemy of Dagon.
The translators for the 3rd Season cut and chopped the
original Japanese script so much that they really make it appear
as if Ram is originally part of the Earth Defense Force. This is
because they slice out a section of the battle at planet Berth
and move it earlier into one of the first episodes. Make for
some real confusion to the viewer!
Hawkins (Hahkins)
Commander of the 8th Defense Fleet Strike Force.
Golsakof
Bemlayz's deputy officer and General Staff Officer on Bolar Prime.
Balsky
Admiral of the Berth Support Fleet.
Balkom
Bolar Home Planet Main Fleet Commander.

Planet Guardiana (Planet Shalbart)
Guardiana is a planet hidden by a inter-dimensional doorway somewhere in space. It is said that the planet once housed Queen Guardiana, who ruled over the Milky Way in peace, and that he planet disappeared when the inhabitants of the galaxy turned to ways of war.
In reality, Guardiana was once a planet which ruled the galaxy with great military force and technology. It disappeared to hide its technology and weapons when its inhabitants turned to peaceful ways.
Followers of the legend of Queen Guardiana are spread throughout the
Galman Empire and the Bolar
Federation.

Spirit ruler of Guardiana. She does little except appear in the
sky and impress people with sparkling lights.
Queen Mariposa (Princess Ruda Shalbart)
Physical ruler of Guardiana, she was captured and sent to exile on Planet Phantom by the Bolars. Rescued and returned to Guardiana by the Star Force, she merges with Queen Guardiana. Impressed by the Earthers' peaceful ways, she grants them use of a special cannon that will quell the excesive nuclear fusion on the Sun.
Dezarium is a mechanised skeleton of a planet. At its core is a huge crystaline city. Scaldart disguises the planet as Earth in an attempt to trick the Star Force into surrendering. The planet is protected by a defense fleet whose flagship is the Beta Cannon-wielding Grodaze.
Appears in BFY
Supreme Leader Scaldart (Scaldart)
Scaldart is the leader of the Black Nebulans, and perhaps for that reason he has red eyes instead of blue. Actually, most of what we see of him is a mask made to look like Earthers... part of his plan of deception.
Appears in BFY, voice in YNJ
Sada (Sahda)
Her exact title is not known, but she is Scaldart's primary aide. She knows how to pour drinks well and can stand beside the throne with great style. The fact that she leaves no human fingerprints on beverage glasses leads Sandor to suspect that she's not as human as she looks.
Appears in BFY
Meldaz (Meldahz)
Commander of the Greater Magellanic Cloud Area Forces, and the huge fortress, Auto-star Goruba. Goruba's armour is impervious to the Wave Motion Gun, and he fights Desslok and the Star Force to a stand-still. Appears in YNJ
Commander Deda (Dehdah)

Appears in BFY
Lieutenant Arufon (Arufon)
This rather sentimental intellegence officer the person who finds Nova after she's been shot by Imperial troopers. He has her delivered to his quarters where he dressed her wounds and undressed just about everything else.
Taken by Nova's beauty, and desperate for love, he offers to set her free if she will love him. When she finally agrees (so that she might join the partisan resistance), he frees her without such condition.
After being critically wounded by a space marine, Arufon gives Nova the plans to the fortress, and explains to her his race's reliance on Machine Bodies and resultant decline. He dies in her lap.
Appears in BFY
Commander Grotas (Grohtas)
Commander of the Black Galaxy Defense Group whose prize fleet of Goruba-style fortresses converges to stop the Star Force from entering its territory. But, having seven such fortresses in such close proximity has its definite disadvantages.

Planet Deingil gets drowned by Aquarius. It's grey-skinned
inhabitants are genetically related to Earthers, it seems.
Fortress Uruku (Uruku)
Giant city/fortress that lifts out of the drowning planet
Deingil. Is equipped with a powerful warp generator capable of
moving an entire planet through space.
Lugal (Supreme Leader Lugal)
Supreme Leader Lugal's plan is to speed Aquarius on its way
to Earth. After washing away Earth's inhabitants, we assume that
Lugal has some means of removing the water so that he can
claim Earth for his people.

Force from disrupting Lugal's plans. DeZahl fails, and as a
punishment, is pulled into the Neutrino Shield of Uruku.
Deingilian Boy (Boya-kun)
Rescued by the Star Force's CosmoHound shuttle from the drowning planet Deingil, this kid stowes away on the Argo as it goes on its mission to find Uruku. After he shields Wildstar from a shot fired by Lugal, we find out that he is actually Lugal's younger son.
All Aquarians appear in FY
Planet Aquarius (Aquarius)
Aquarius is a planet made of heavy water (H3). It supports several
floating continents and once a great civilisation. It's aeonic
orbits throughout the Milky Way have brought water, life, and death
to many worlds.
Queen of Aquarius (Queen of Aquarius)
Aquarius has only one remaining inhabitant that we see -- the spirit of its Queen. The Queen greets the Star Force as it lands on one of the floating continents and explains Aquarius's purpose and that of the Deingillians.
