Star Blazers

Timeline

With all the series and movies, you might have wondered how exactly it all fits together. The creators of Yamato have, due to intent or lack thereof, given us several different (sometimes conflicting) storylines, or timelines, which we may choose to follow. Here is a listing of all those of which I am currently aware:

Story Year

Timeline #1:

TV Season 1 2199-2200 Arrivederci Yamato 2201

Timeline #2:

TV Season 1 2199-2200 TV Season 2 2201 Yamato, New Journey late 2201 Be Forever Yamato 2202 TV Season 3 2205 Final Yamato late 2205 or 2206

Timeline #3:

TV Season 1 2199-2200 TV Season 2 2201 Yamato, New Journey late 2201 Be Forever Yamato 2202 Final Yamato 2203

Timeline #4:

TV Season 1 2199-2200 TV Season 2 2201 Yamato, New Journey late 2201 Be Forever Yamato 2202 TV Season 3 2205

Timeline #5:

TV Season 1 2199-2200 TV Season 2 2201 Yamato, New Journey late 2201 Be Forever Yamato 2202 TV Season 3 2203 Final Yamato late 2203

Some of these variations would not need to be noted except for the logical permutation of the dates involved. As far as the printed authorities go, TV Season 3 was stated to have occurred in 2205, but the Final Yamato opening monologue has Final Yamato (a story assumed to occur after the events in TV Season 3) occur in 2203. This forces us to disregard either the opening date given in TV Season 3, or the opening date given in Final Yamato. So, fans generally allow the dates given to be non-binding.

There have long been unfounded rumours that Matsumoto's Harlock and Galaxy Express stories are somehow linked to the Yamato's universe. Though there is no official storyline evidence to support this as of yet, we will note here that the Harlock stories occur in the 2900s, roughly 700 years after Yamato. However, if the much awaited Great Yamato film comes to fruition, this may change.
